Add and Subtract Decimals: Word Problems

Decimals help us work with amounts that are not whole numbers, such as prices, weights, and measurements. In word problems, we add to find a total and subtract to find how much is left or the difference between two amounts.

Example: You sell a hat for $18.50 and spend $7.25 on materials. How much money is left?

$18.50 − $7.25 = $11.25

💡 Remember: Read carefully, decide whether to add or subtract, and line up the decimal points before solving!
