Lesson Intro: To multiply three numbers, you can multiply two at a time.

The order doesnโ€™t change the answer (because multiplication is associative).

Steps

  1. Multiply the first two numbers.

  2. Multiply that product by the third number.

Example

3ร—4ร—53 \times 4 \times 53ร—4ร—5
= (3ร—4)ร—5(3 \times 4) \times 5(3ร—4)ร—5
= 12ร—512 \times 512ร—5
= 60

Tip (make it easier)

Look for pairs that make 10, 100, or other easy numbers.
Example: 2ร—5ร—72 \times 5 \times 72ร—5ร—7
= (2ร—5)ร—7(2 \times 5) \times 7(2ร—5)ร—7
= 10ร—710 \times 710ร—7
= 70
