✏️ Lesson Intro: Compare Numbers

Comparing numbers means figuring out which number is greater, which is less, or if they are equal. We use special symbols to show this:

  • > means greater than

  • < means less than

  • = means equal to

Think of > and < like an alligator mouth: it always opens toward the bigger number.

Example:

  • 8 > 5 (8 is greater than 5)

  • 3 < 6 (3 is less than 6)

  • 7 = 7 (they are equal)

In this lesson, you’ll practice comparing numbers by looking at their value, place value, and sometimes using a number line to help you decide quickly and correctly.
