Lesson Intro: Irregular Past Tense

When we talk about something that already happened, we often use the past tense of a verb. Many verbs form the past tense by adding -ed, like walk β†’ walked or jump β†’ jumped. But some verbs do not follow that rule. These are called irregular past tense verbs.

For example:

  • go β†’ went

  • eat β†’ ate

  • see β†’ saw

These verbs change in a special way, so we have to learn and remember them. In this lesson, we will practice using irregular past tense verbs correctly in sentences so we can talk clearly about things that happened in the past.

Example Sentences

  • Yesterday, I went to the store.

  • She ate breakfast early this morning.

  • We saw a rainbow after the rain.
