English Introduction: Identify Supporting Details in Informational Text
Hi Sylver! Informational texts teach us facts about a topic. The main idea is the most important point, while supporting details give facts and examples that explain it.
Example:
“Keeping hat supplies organized helps your business run smoothly. Labeled bins make supplies easy to find. Counting your supplies helps you know when to order more.”
Main idea: Organizing supplies helps your business run smoothly.
Supporting details: Labeled bins help you find supplies, and counting helps you know when to reorder.
Your goal: Find the main idea, then ask: “Which details help explain or support this idea?”
