Lesson Intro: Order of Adjectives
Sometimes we use more than one adjective to describe a noun. In English, adjectives usually follow a natural order—and if we mix the order, it can sound “weird” even if the words are correct.
The usual adjective order (easy version)
Opinion → Size → Age → Color → Noun
✅ “a beautiful small old brown house”
❌ “a brown old small beautiful house” (sounds awkward)
Full adjective order (for when there are many)
Opinion → Size → Shape → Age → Color → Origin → Material → Purpose → Noun
Example:
✅ “a lovely large round new red Italian leather riding boots”
(You don’t have to use all categories—this is just the pattern.)
Quick Memory Trick
Think: What I think → What it looks like → Where it’s from → What it’s made of → What it’s for
